| Day CampDay Camp is offered on one Friday and Saturday in the spring (May) and fall (October) annually. Day Camp classes are half (3-hour) or full (6-hour) day sessions where members volunteer to teach a specific skill or small project to other members OR, work on your own project in the company of other members during one of the Open Sew sessions. There is a small fee for class attendees. We will have the Fall classes held at Ronald United Methodist Church Volunteer teachers are needed, learn more about this opportunity here. Don’t Get Boxed In-Precision Piecing with Freezer PaperInstructor: Maureen Atkins Description: Do you want the perfect points without paper piecing and the extra time it takes to tear out the paper after you stitch? Then this class is for you. Spend a morning learning how to convert almost any paper piecing pattern to freezer paper and start enjoying those perfect points again.

Apron from a Man's ShirtInstructor: Jeanne Davis Description: Learn how to make a beautiful apron from a man’s shirt. You can purchase a shirt from a thrift store or transform one from a favorite person in your life. It will be very comfortable and won’t mess your hair when putting it on. The apron will protect your clothing while cooking, eating your favorite pasta or while dining in your car. Once you learn how to do this it is easy to make aprons from a woman and a child’s shirt. Cathedral Windows Two WaysInstructor: Nancy Tokarz Description: In this class we will be making two different styles of quick and easy cathedral windows! Traditional cathedral windows, which were made into quilts or pillow tops, etc. used A LOT of fabric and time. I will be showing you how to make two different styles of windows using small amounts of fabric with each style completed by the end of class. You will have two new fun ornaments (I’m thinking Easter tree this time of year!). During the class I will also be sharing some of the other projects that I have incorporated these fun blocks into. Inspired Improv: Let’s declutter & use those orphan blocks.Instructor: Linda Teri Description: This is a BRAND NEW CLASS to take improv to another level. We will use improvisational piecing to sew a small wall hanging that is uniquely you. We will take step-by-exciting-step: using fabric already in your stash, rescuing orphan blocks, and employing free-form improv sewing (with only straight seams!) to create improv blocks and a lap quilt to show off your unique style. Improv is short for Improvisational. Akin to improvisational music or theatre, improv quilting is a process of working. It’s about paying attention and making decisions as you go. Free form and free flowing. All you need is your creativity and willingness to forgo a pattern! (If you’ve taken my other improv day camp class, creating the blocks will be very different but your experience will totally be similar in the fun and creativity you will unleash.) Travel Iron Transport Bag/Pressing stationInstructor: Dawn Redick Description: If you are looking for a safe & handy way to transport your travel iron to and from class/retreat and have a handy small pressing station by your machine, this day camp class is for you. During this class we will assemble the small iron tote bag pictured. Only basic sewing skills are required. Although there is a some amount of machine quilting and binding on this project, do not let this intimate you, It's very minimal. Hope to see you there! Magic BlanketInstructor: Hope Rice Description: My dad said that the afghan he napped under was his "magic blanket", because he slept so well under it. In our home, the wool blanket I made is our "magic blanket". Make your own "magic blanket". This project is for the non-precision machine sewer!! The joy of working with felted wool is this: sew the squares together and--done!! No batting/backing/quilting!! We'll discuss quick and more complicated joining techniques, design, sewing matched curved pieces. Come and have fun! Flocks of Flying Geese and Heaps of Half-Square TrianglesInstructor: Wendy Bannister Description: Have you ever been daunted by a quilt pattern that specifies 482 Half-Square-Triangles? This class will show you how to expedite the process so those quilts will be achievable in your lifetime! HSTs and Flying Geese are basic building blocks for many quilts, and making them in quantity is easy with a few tricks. I’ll show you shortcuts to help you whip them out in no time. Playing with Color using 2.5" squares - CANCELLEDInstructor: Christine Ellin Class Cancelled Description: Keyword is “playing” meaning having fun, in this case with color. Yes, I’ll incorporate various theories on color, we’ll have conversations about color, talk about different ways to look at them, as well as finding inspiration with colors and even touch on the history. I’m all about throwing fear out the window and having fun, while building confidence. We will make a game of it, literally. We will be working with 2.5 inch squares, experimenting with how the colors play together and what inspires you.
