    42nd Quilt Show Celebration!

Business meeting will occur prior to presentation. This will include the drawing for the raffle quilt at the Wednesday morning meeting. This time will also include Show and Tell as a regular highlight of our meeting. If you created a Challenge Quilt please bring it and stand up with the group to show off the Challenge creations.

To add to the "celebration" atmosphere of the April meetings, we are asking members to bring treats. Beverages will be provided. There will be a slightly longer social break to give more time to talk with each other about our quilts.

After the break, we will celebrate the success of our 42nd quilt show! There will be acknowledgements and a preliminary report of the attendance and financial information. Then it will be time to announce the winners in the different categories! A slideshow will be presented with photos of the quilts selected by the quilt show attendees for prizes in each category as well as for Best in Show. Ribbons are usually awarded to winners who are at the in-person meetings, but this year our ribbon company is not able to complete the order in time. We hope to have the ribbons available at the May meeting. Certificates will be given to the winners. If you are not able to attend the May or June meeting, we will contact you directly to get your ribbon to you.

Parking information for in person attendees is available here.  Wherever you park, we have been requested to place a parking "sticker" on our dash, which can be found here. Copies will be available at meetings.

All members are invited to celebrate the 2024 quilt show!  This meeting together is an important part of the process so we can get feedback on what went well and how the quilt show can be improved for future shows.

We will also take some time to look ahead to the 2025 show and determine any openings to fill.

Quilt show sub-committee chairs are needed at this meeting.

A special note to newer members: This meeting is a great way to learn about the inner workings of the quilt show and how you can be part of this important event.

Please register for this meeting so we will know how many will be expected. Yes, this is a "Party" so there will be a bit of time for celebration and food.

If you have any questions, contact quiltshowchair@quiltersanonymous.org.

    "Welsh Quilting" with Tia Curtis

Join Tia Curtis as she makes intricate, glorious Welsh Style quilting as easy as pie. Tia Curtis will give you a little history on the most beautiful and passionate of all the quilting styles and break down the designs into simple steps for you to elevate any border into an instant show stopper.  She will also show how to work in some fabulous medallions. You will learn to mark your quilt with minimal lines and incorporate some of the best quilting rulers to quilt the bones of several border styles then fill them in with the best Welsh designs. While the quilting looks complicated it is just a matter of taking the proper steps and knowing a couple tricks. These skills can be used on the long arm or on the domestic machine. If you are a hand quilter, the same techniques will work for you as well.

"Bella Vista Landscapes" with Helene Knott

The vistas in these small quilted projects represent a crosscut of ocean, lake, river, and mountain scenes. Students will work from a pattern of choice in the Bella Vista series to create a small, unique landscape. I call this my instant gratification class, the projects will be fused for speed and efficiency resulting in a project where most students will leave the class with a finished mini-landscape top ready to layer and quilt. This class is an excellent introduction to the principles of creating striking landscape quilts. The small size means students can explore ideas without a huge commitment of time and materials, making these mini landscapes an ideal stepping stone to creating larger scenic quilts with confidence. The focus of the class is on creating a variety of seasonal and atmospheric conditions that make landscape quilts an ever fascinating foray into design variations, and each student’s quilt will be unique.

There are a variety of patterns to choose from.  Each student will receive one pattern of their choice at no additional cost with workshop enrollment.  Additional patterns available for $10 each.  Optional kits available for some of the simpler patterns, $25 each.

    Charity Work Party

Come help the Charity Committee work through the backlog of quilt tops.

Please join the fun as we work to prepare quilt tops for quilting (matching tops with backs, cutting binding strips, cutting batting, creating bundles ready for quilting).

Please see the Supply List here.

If you don't know how to do some of these things, now is your chance to learn. There will be folks there who can show you how!

The Charity team will be picking up quilt tops, backing fabric, and batting at the Charity storage unit, but we will need help bringing it into the meeting room and then carting it back to our vehicles for the trip back to the storage unit.

We appreciate your help so very much! Thank you!

Stay tuned for an email announcing the opening of registration for this event.

"The Watercolor Quilt" with Audrey Esarey

    DSC00919.jpgA4 Listing Photo-48.jpg

The Watercolor Quilt is a wall hanging made from one large block that uses curved piecing to create the illusion of transparency from overlapping circles.  The class will cover Audrey's process for building a fabric gradation and tips and tricks for stress-free curved piecing.  Take the guesswork out of color selection by using one of the published color gradations inside the pattern!  The Watercolor Quilt finishes at 32 x 32 inches.

Audrey is offering a 20% discount on her patterns.  Use the code QA2024.  This code can be used by all QA members, not just workshop participants.

    Workshop Fee: $65 for Members

Pattern:  In addition to paying the workshop fee, workshop participants must purchase the pattern via Audrey's website www.CottonandBourbon.com ($14, less the 20% discount noted above).  Please see the Supply List for information regarding the pattern and paper templates that will be available for purchase at the class for $5 in order to save you the hassle of printing and correctly sizing the pieces.

    "Amazing Abstracts" with Julia Graves

Create an abstract quilt that has amazing movement and drama. Go from inspiration to a simple sketch, then have fun “coloring” your sketch with bits of fabric to create a mock-up of your design – see before you sew!  The design is gridded and blocks are foundation pieced using an easy sew and flip method with room for creativity and improvisation.  Lots of discussion of design principles and how to use color and value to create the drama and desired effects.  Based on the techniques of Ursula Kern (with her permission of course!). For this one day class, students will start with a base pattern of spiral or a star burst and add their own coloration and value choices.  Most participants will complete several blocks in class.

    Skill Level:  All levels

"Modern Quilting with Your Walking Foot" with Melissa Marginet

Melissa Marginet is a Canadian quilt maker, author, teacher and quilt pattern designer.  She has a passion for teaching, and her focus is to help people gain the confidence to quilt their quilts on their home sewing machines with a walking foot.

In this technique workshop, you will make samples of different quilting designs that can be executed on your home sewing machine with a walking foot.  You will create samples of walking foot designs on small quilt sandwiches to help you understand what makes each design successful.  In the class, you will also look at variations of the designs you stitch out.  The samples you make in class will be a great reference for you when deciding how to quilt your next quilt.

    Skill Level:  All levels.

Supply List:  The supply list is available here.

Book Availability:  Melissa's book, Walking Foot Quilting Designs, is recommended but is not required for the workshop.  We expect to have copies of this book as well her book Edge-to-Edge Walking Foot Quilting Designs available for sale at the Sept., Oct. and Nov. QA meetings to save you the effort and shipping cost of ordering individually.

    Workshop Fee: $40 for Members
