"Elegant Skinny Lines" with Lisa Jenni
Learn how to make straight & soft-curved skinny lines. Have you admired contemporary art quilts with very skinny, elegant lines? In this class you will learn how to carefully piece those lines with precision, but without pinning! Once you’ve figured out the skinny straight lines, we’ll progress to soft curves. It’s easier than you think; you’ll learn how to do this process step-by-step. No ruler is needed for cutting.
Use colorful batiks or showcase your precious hand-dyed fabric; this is the place to experiment as you won’t need to use much of it. I’ll get you acquainted with a very simple (unusual for quilters) tool that might help you in more ways than just what this class covers.
How to quilt this? Which look is your favorite? The popular “matchstick” quilting, using a walking foot in straight-line spirals, or a free-form and free-motion allover pattern?
Design discussion: We’ll look at examples of skinny line quilts from other artists and talk about possibilities, then make some simple sketches to help you retain the details of this technique.
Make a lumbar pillow, table runner or narrow wall hanging – any of these will look very elegant.
